FAA Human Error

Airlines currently have access to safety data from a variety of sources, including data that result from their participation in voluntary safety programs sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration. However, safety data are only tools; they cannot and do not, in and of themselves, make aviation safer. These data must be evaluated—and the lessons learned applied—if improvements in safety are to be realized. AIR is currently conducting research to assist organizations in improving their utilization of the data and the programs of which they are a part. This work builds on work conducted by AIR in previous years to identify and reduce human error and its causal contributors.
