Federal Education Statistics
AIR’s experts contribute to the development of high-quality statistics about education that inform discussion, debate, and planning at national, state, and local levels. AIR:
- develops data collection instruments for large-scale surveys and assessments,
- plans and implements strategies to assure high-quality data,
- analyzes data and writes reports to monitor continuing and emerging topics,
- conducts methodological studies in statistics and large-scale surveys and assessments, and
- facilitates communication among statisticians, survey methodologists, practitioners, policy analysts, researchers, and the public for input and dissemination of findings.

Common Core of Data
The Common Core of Data (CCD) is an annual collection of public elementary and secondary education data administered by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The Federal Statistics Program’s CCD team provides professional and technical services for all aspects of data file preparation, file review, data analysis, preparation of data file documentation, and writing of substantive reports.

Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS)
The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is an international comparative study of the reading literacy of young students. AIR’s experts provide technical and analytical support for U.S. participation in PIRLS, including consultation and management support; technical review of statistical reports, data files, and data documentation; expert analysis; technical support for the development of web-based data tools and other products; and training outside researchers to use PIRLS data files and other survey resources.

The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) is an international comparative study of the mathematics and science achievement of fourth- and eighth-graders in the United States and students in the equivalent of fourth and eighth grade in other participating countries.

America's Children: Key National Indicators of Well Being
America’s Children provides an annual summary of national indicators of child well-being and monitoring changes in these indicators over time. It offers a platform to stimulate discussions among policymakers and the public; to support exchanges between data providers and policy communities; and to suggest improvements in Federal data on children and families.

AIR’s Education Statistics Services Institute (ESSI) provides technical expertise in the areas of statistical methodology research, statistical analysis, survey development, and project management to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
