In September, 2003, the U.S. Department of Education awarded AIR the contract to enhance state capacity to develop model instructional content standards in reading, mathematics, and English language acquisition. AIR also has just been awarded a project to identify promising literacy interventions and design a random assignment impact evaluation of these interventions for adult ESL learners. Additionally, we are continuing our design and analysis work on the 2003 National Assessment of Adult Literacy, developing training and technical assistance materials for the National Reporting System for Adult Education, and operating California’s professional development system.
